Kit Harrington, the King in the North himself, pulled hosting duties for the latest episode of Saturday Night Live. And while disarmingly clean-shaven—during his monologue he copped to looking like a “pre-pubescent Jon Snow”—Harrington was duly up for all the Game of Thrones jokes SNL‘s writers could muster.
In his opening monologue, Harrington joked about his own less-than-stellar non-Thrones credits. “I was also in a movie called Silent Hill: Revelation 3D. Anyone a fan?” he asked. “No, I didn’t think so.”
He then fielded questions from an audience that included fellow GoT stars Emilia Clarke, John Bradley (Samwell Tarly), and Harrington’s wife Rose Leslie, who played his wildling love interest Ygritte.
“Could you just give us a general sense of how [the show] ends?” asked Clarke.
“Wait a second, Emilia, you’re in the show. You know already,” Harrington replied.
“Well yeah, but you know, I forgot,” said Clarke. “I mean it’s been so damn long since the last season. Plus a lot of my scenes are talking to a dragon, which is just a tennis ball on a green pole. So I’ve no idea what’s actually happening.”
The week’s other Thrones sketch took the form of a commercial for HBO’s multiple GoT spinoffs. They include Castle Black, a Riverdale-style romantic drama that finds Jon Snow in a romance with a white walker played by Heidi Gardner, who just wants to know when he’s going to tell his friends about their love, and a Daria-like teen animated sitcom called Arya.
Best of all was Game of Thrones: Special Victims Unit. Real-life SVU stars Mariska Hargitay and Ice-T made cameo appearances as their King’s Landing counterparts, engaging in some of their signature style of expository banter: “You’re telling me some sick son of a bitch cut this dude’s thing off, then fed it to his dog?”
